Mountains and waterfalls of Tonkin (7 days)


Day 1: Hanoi - Ba Be (240 km)
Day 2: Ba Be
Day 3: Ba Be- Cao Bang (140km)

Day 1: Hanoi - Ba Be (240 km)
We leave in the morning towards the North-West of the country. During our way we pass Thai Nguyen City, the metal and steel centre of Vietnam. We start to reach the first slopes, on which hided houses on stilts are constructed belonging to the Tay people. We continue our drive towards Ba Be National Park. The environment here is simply breathtaking and overwhelming. In the late afternoon we arrive in the local house where we are invited to have dinner.
Day 2: Ba Be
Sounds of local life and cocks will wake us up in the early morning. We have breakfast and leave the house for an interesting promenade through the village. Afterwards we come aboard of a small boat to cruise over the lake. You will be surprised by the heavily forested hills and the dramatic scenery. We pass the Dau Dang waterfalls, the Poung grotto and afterwards we enjoy lunch in a local house.
Day 3: Ba Be- Cao Bang (140km)
We continue our trek and we pass old gold mines. We meet minority people in the high mountains in their colorful traditional costumes. They are upgrading the road towards the border of the Cao Bang border continuously. However, the road is still keeping its charms with its beautiful waterfalls situated beside this road.
Day 4: Cao Bang - Cascades de Ban Gioc - Cao Bang (100km)
Today we visit the most beautiful and savage region of Vietnam. Inhabited by colorful hill tribes, living in houses on stilts, they welcome us with warm smiles and invite us to drink a cup of rice wine. Later this day we bring a visit to the most beautiful waterfall of north Vietnam. We return to Cao Bang before the evening falls.
Day 5: Cao Bang- Lang Son (150 km)
We take the colonial road N°4, famous for its bloody battlefields field during the Indochina War in 1950. Then we drive towards the Dong Dang border post, where we visit the central market of Lang Son, the place of trade between Vietnam and China. We have dinner in a local restaurant, Influenced by Chinese traditions.
Day 06: Lang Son- Hanoi (150km)
In the morning, we drive towards the Mau Son mountain, at an altitude of over 1000m. Here we will have a panoramic view of the limestone formations which are cut up into four cardinal points. The environment is inhabited by people of the Red Dzao hill tribe, the masters of rice wine in the region. A new constructed road towards Hanoi allows us to drive at full speed. Arrival in Hanoi in the late afternoon.
